Events and Festivals

Thailand has numerous events and festivals, all echoes vibrancy, magnificence and colorful.  Take part of the biggest events and festivals happening in the Kingdom to complete your escapade.



         Songkran- it is dubbed as the most fun events in the country.  It is the celebration of the Thai New Year that usually falls on the 13th-17th day of April.  During this holiday, local people pay homage to Buddha images, sprinkle water to their elders as a sign of respect and clean their homes.  There will be also water fight that has been believed to wash away the sins of the past year.  This large open water warfare in the world will last for three full days.


        Royal Ploughing Ceremony- it is an ancient Brahman ritual rites presided over by the King and Queen.  Royal Ploughing Ceremony marks the official commencement of the rice-planting season.  Participants of this ceremony wear multihued costumes who will present various and fantastic ceremonies deemed to bring good harvest and weather for the coming year.


         Chiang Mai Flower Festival- one of the most colorful and majestic events in the nation featuring spectacular flower displays and parades of opulent decorated floats.  There will be also beauty contest and handicraft sales during Chiang Mai Flower Festival.  It is held around February.


         Loy Krathong- one of the most popular and spectacular festivals in the kingdom falling on the first full moon of November in Lunar calendar.  This is when people head to rivers, lakes or swimming pools by floating flowers and candles on the water.  Krathong serves as a thank you offering to the goddess of river who gives good health and life to the local people.  During Loy Krathong, canals, coastal areas, all waterways, rivers and lakes will be illuminated with awe-inspiring sceneries in which thousands of candles light up the night.


         Birthday of His Majesty the King- celebrated all over the nation, the King’s birthday is filled with lots of fun and happenings.  Every town and village’s buildings and establishments are adorned with flags, lights and portraits of the King.  In Rattanokosin, Old Bangkok there are beautiful and sophisticated light displays on trees, roads and buildings.


         Phimai Festival- if you want to watch spectacular light and sound presentation, visit the Land of Smiles during Phimai Festival.  This revelry depicts the magnificent period of Khmer.  There will be cultural shows, Buddha image processions and a bike tour.


         Phuket Vegetarian Festival- this event is celebrated during the ninth Chinese calendar month that runs for 10 days.  It has become a famous festival in Phuket in which people undertake a vegetarian diet for 10 days.  There are also processions highlighting the event and devotees presenting out-of-this-world performances including fire walking.


         Wax Castle Festival- in the northeastern part of Thailand, an interesting revelry is held-- the Wax Castle Festival.  It happens at the end of Buddhist lent in which in the beautiful place of Sakon Nakhon features the most grand wax procession and boat races.
