Who’s who in Thailand? Get to know the country’s very important and famous people!



         Tony Jaa- one of the famous actors in Thailand that has been popularly known across the world because of his blockbuster movie, Ong Bak.  Born on 5 February 1976, Tony Jaa is a Thai martial art film actor and choreographer.  He appeared in different  martial arts films such as Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, Ong Bak 2 and Tom Yum Goong or The Protector.  With his great martial arts expertise and excellent acting, Jackie Chan, one of the world’s best martial arts actors captured his attention.  Hence, Jaa was given a stint in Rush Hour 3, another Hollywood blockbuster flick.


         Ann Thongprasom- this gorgeous actress, host and producer in entertainment industry was born on November 1, 1976 in the bustling metropolis of Bangkok.  She appeared in numerous Thai series shows and movies in which she usually portrays as a lead actress such as in the 2004 romantic melodrama program, The Letter: Jod Mai Rak.  In this movie it earned her an acting awards including Best Actress at Thailand National Film Association Awards.


         Abhisit Vejjajiva- he is the incumbent Thai Prime Minister since December 17, 2008.  This leader of the Democrat Party finished with excellence in Bachelor’s Degree major in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at St. John’s College, Oxford.  Vejjajiva began his political career in 1992.


         Boonsak Ponsana- is one of the most famous badminton players in Thailand.  He is often called as “Man” or “Superman”.  Ponsana is a Law graduate in Sri Patum University located in Bangkok, Thailand.  At young age, Boonsak has defeated top badminton athletes suchas Lee Hyun Il and Kenneth Jonassen.


        Sinbi Taewoong- started training for Muay Thai at the age of 9.  Taewoong was dubbed as one of the greated Muay Thai figures in which he had fought in the famous and prestigious stadiums in the country, the Lumpinee and Rajadamnern.  He won during the KOMA event way back 2005.


         Tata Young- born Amita Marie Young, Tata is undoubtedly one of the famous Thai superstars rising fame internationally.  This Thai singer, model and actress has been a recipient of numerous recognitions such as “One of the 25 Most Influential Trend-setters in Asia” by Asiaweek and among the “10 Most Influential People” in Thailand conducted by ELLE magazine.


         Thaksin Shinawatra- one of the richest public figure in the Kingdom of Thailand that was born in the province of Chiang Mai on July 26, 1949.  Shinawatra is a Thai businessman, politician and former Prime Minister of the country that is later on ousted of power by a military coup and convicted.

        Queen Sirikit- Somdej Phra Nang Chao Sirikit Phra Borommarachininat is Queen Sirikit’s formal and title name.  HRM Queen Sirikit is the second Queen Regent of the nation and the wife of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, currently the longest reigning head of state in the world.  She is also the longest reigning consort of a monarch in the world.  In addition, according to wikipedi.com Queen Sirikit ranks as a Field Marshal, Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the Royal Thai Air Force.

         Bhumibol Adulyadej- also known as Rama IX, King Bhumibol Adulyadej started reigning since June 9, 1946 and named as the longest-serving current head of state and longest-serving monarch in the world and in the history of Thailand respectively.  He is reported to be one of the world’s richest monarchs with a personal net worth of $5 billion dollars.  This highly praised Thai figure is respected as a semi-divine by local people as a part of their belief in Buddhism.
